Washington is the capital and seat of government of the United States of America, located in the District of Columbia. The district is not a US state nor part of any, but is under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Congress. The elegant city with spacious parks, broad streets and magnificent buildings is named after the first president of the United States, George Washington.

The famous Capitol is the meeting place of the United States Congress. It is open to the public and we took the chance to have a look into the interior. Under the far visible dome is a magnificent entrance hall, a rotunda with friezes, sculptures and paintings of important personalities and historic scenes of the American history.
The beautiful White House with its imposing portico is the official residence and principal workplace of the President. The city is also home to the Supreme Court of the United States and hosts the national Archive. Beyond that grand Museums invite to study the political, cultural and natural history of the country. In particular the exhibits of natural history are amazing and fascinating.
